How to Prepare for a New Roof
By the Quantock Roofing team · Updated 14 June 2026
A bit of preparation makes a roof replacement run more smoothly for everyone. Here's what to think about before the work starts, and what to expect while it's going on.
Before the work starts
A few simple things help the job go smoothly:
- • Clear access for scaffolding and around the perimeter of the house
- • Arrange parking so the team can load and unload safely
- • Cover or move anything stored in the loft — re-roofing creates dust
- • Let neighbours know, especially if scaffolding affects shared access
- • Move cars and garden items away from the working area
What to expect during the work
Re-roofing is noisy and dusty — there's no way around it. Scaffolding will be up for the duration, and there'll be a skip or waste collection. We protect the property and tidy up daily, and the roof is kept watertight overnight while the work is ongoing.
Questions are welcome
We'll talk you through the plan before we start and keep you updated as the job progresses. If anything's unclear — timescales, what happens if it rains, how we protect the loft — just ask. A good roofer would rather answer questions than leave you guessing.
