How Long Does a Roof Replacement Take?
By the Quantock Roofing team · Updated 14 June 2026
Most homeowners want to know how long they'll be living under scaffolding. Here's a realistic guide to roof replacement timescales — and the things that change them.
A realistic timescale
A typical house re-roof often takes from several days to a week or two. Smaller, simpler roofs are quicker; large or complex roofs with lots of detailing, dormers and chimneys take longer. We give you a realistic timescale with your written quotation rather than an optimistic guess.
What affects it
The main factors are:
- • Size, pitch and complexity of the roof
- • Access and scaffolding requirements
- • The covering and detailing chosen
- • Any structural timber repairs found once stripped
- • The weather
Weather and your home
Roofing is weather-dependent, and safety comes first. We plan and protect open roofs so your home stays watertight, but some spells make work impractical and can extend the timescale. We'd always rather take an extra day than rush a roof or work in unsafe conditions.
