Storm Damage Roof Checklist
By the Quantock Roofing team · Updated 14 June 2026
High winds and storms can damage a roof in minutes. Once the weather has passed, a calm, safe check helps you understand the damage and get it put right. The golden rule stays the same: stay safe and don't go onto the roof.
Safety first
Never climb onto a wet, mossy or damaged roof, and keep away from any sagging ceiling. Working at height is genuinely dangerous — leave it to professionals with the right equipment. If there's any danger to life or signs of structural collapse, call 999.
Stay safe after the storm
Before inspecting anything:
- • Wait until the weather has genuinely passed and it's safe outside.
- • Keep away from any loose or hanging debris, and from fallen power lines — report those to the network operator.
- • Do not climb onto the roof, and keep away from sagging ceilings indoors.
- • If there's any danger to life or signs of structural collapse, call 999.
Check for damage from the ground
From a safe distance, look for:
- • Tiles or slates blown off, slipped or scattered in the garden
- • Lifted or flapping flashing and ridge tiles
- • Damaged or detached guttering and fascias
- • Debris or fallen branches resting on the roof
- • New damp patches appearing on ceilings inside
Document it and get help
Take photos for your insurer, then call a roofer to make the roof safe and watertight. Send us the photos and your postcode on WhatsApp (07379 046388) and we'll advise on the next step. We can document the damage and repair to support an insurance claim, and we respond to urgent storm enquiries as quickly as conditions safely allow.
