Choosing a roofer is about trust as much as price. A few straightforward questions help you compare quotes fairly and avoid the cowboys. Any good roofer will be happy to answer all of these.
About the work
Make sure you understand exactly what you're paying for:

- • Does it include scaffolding, waste removal and leadwork?
- • What membrane, battens and fixings will you use?
- • Is this a repair or a full replacement — and why?
- • What happens if you find timber problems once stripped?
About guarantees and insurance
Protect yourself with the paperwork:
- • What workmanship guarantee do you provide, and in writing?
- • Is the manufacturer material warranty separate?
- • Are you insured for this work?
- • Will I get a written contract or quotation before work starts?
Warning signs to watch for
