Questions to Ask a Roofing Contractor
By the Quantock Roofing team · Updated 14 June 2026
Choosing a roofer is about trust as much as price. A few straightforward questions help you compare quotes fairly and avoid the cowboys. Any good roofer will be happy to answer all of these.
About the work
Make sure you understand exactly what you're paying for:
- • Is the quote itemised, so I can see what's included?
- • Does it include scaffolding, waste removal and leadwork?
- • What membrane, battens and fixings will you use?
- • Is this a repair or a full replacement — and why?
- • What happens if you find timber problems once stripped?
About guarantees and insurance
Protect yourself with the paperwork:
- • What workmanship guarantee do you provide, and in writing?
- • Is the manufacturer material warranty separate?
- • Are you insured for this work?
- • Will I get a written contract or quotation before work starts?
Warning signs to watch for
Be cautious of anyone demanding large cash payments up front, pressuring you to decide on the spot, knocking on the door claiming they 'noticed' a problem, or refusing to put anything in writing. Honest roofers give you time, written quotes and straight answers.
How we answer them
We're happy to answer every one of these for your job — in writing, with no pressure. Free quotes, clear pricing, workmanship guarantees and honest advice are the whole point of how we work. Ask us anything.
